ESC沖縄支社ビル 2019

Office Architecture

A place that quietly supports people, nature, and the creative culture of an organization.

This project is an office building for the Okinawa branch of an internationally oriented company headquartered in Tokyo, whose highly skilled bilingual staff regularly travel across the globe.

Rather than functioning solely as a business base, the building was envisioned as a place that nurtures corporate philosophy and human creativity by embracing the environment and culture of Okinawa.

The site is located in the central part of Okinawa’s main island, along a busy arterial road. However, the surrounding area is buffered by abundant greenery, and the building is enveloped on all sides by a generous green zone. While gently shielding the interior from the bustle of the road, the architecture draws in light and the expansive, Okinawan sense of openness.

We believe that, much like a home, an office is also a “second place” where people spend a significant portion of their lives. Ensuring that each staff member feels comfortable both physically and mentally is essential, as such conditions naturally foster concentration, creativity, and sound judgment.

All workspaces are arranged to enjoy views of Okinawa’s landscape, while the public core—including the entrance, meeting rooms, break room, and restrooms— is consolidated at the center of the building. Private booths are positioned in the east and west wings, allowing spaces for focused work and areas where people and information intersect to coexist without strain.

This layout encourages natural interaction among staff and visitors within the flow of everyday movement.

For the air-conditioning system, a centralized system was adopted, providing a ventilation rate approximately three times higher than the Japanese standards(equivalent to German standards for office environments). This ensures a clean and healthy working environment.

We believe that careful attention to even the invisible elements is essential in a place where people continue to work over long periods. Materials, spatial composition, and design were selected with the intention that they would retain their value over time, without being swayed by transient trends.
This building is not an office that pursues efficiency alone, but an architecture that quietly supports and cultivates people’s thinking and organizational culture.
