Creating Space for Light and Wind
within the City

Kd project integrates the owner’s office and residence with rental apartments within a single building.
While organizing these different functions within a limited site and building volume, we placed light and wind at the heart of the architecture, seeking to create a comfortable environment within the density of the city.

At the center of the building is a deep void open to the sky. Acting as a “well of light,” it draws natural light and wind deep into the building, gently connecting the different spaces while bringing a sense of the sky and nature into the interior.

A reflecting pool is introduced along the sequence from the approach through the stairway to the shared spaces. Light and shadow, the subtle movement of water, wind, and the textures of materials overlap to create a landscape that changes throughout the day. Reflections of the sky and light on the water bring a sense of stillness and depth to the urban environment.

We believe that architecture should be more than a vessel for accommodating functions; it should be an environment that engages and restores the human senses. Rather than treating circulation simply as a means of reaching a destination, we designed it as an experience in itself—a moment to pause, look up at the sky, and sense the presence of water and wind. In this way, movement through the building becomes part of the richness of everyday life

At the same time, the project is both a place to live and an income-generating property intended to endure over time. Balancing initial construction costs with a long-term perspective, we considered what would allow the building to remain desirable 10 or 20 years into the future. Rather than relying on equipment or temporary novelty, we sought to create lasting value through the architecture itself—the light, wind, water, and the richness and sense of space they create.
